Recycle Week Activities

This year National Recycle Week runs from 14th-20th October. This year's theme is 'Rescue Me', and focuses on rescuing recyclable items from the rubbish bin. Recycle Now has an Action Pack that schools can sign up for here.

At 2Simple, we have collected a range of activities on Purple Mash, that you can use in class to encourage everyone to recycle.

Writing Activities

We have several writing activities that you can use for Recycling Week. Use our Recycling Debate worksheet to prepare for a debate on how companies can make it easier for households to recycle waste, linking to this year's theme. You can also use our Recycling Poster to explain what items can be recycled, or sharing where people can recycle difficult items. Use the DK text What a Waste: The Problem with Rubbish to help you with your writing projects.

Other Activities

We also have some paint projects that you can use. You can design your very own recycling symbol - could your students make it ultra-modern? Use our recycle box template to paint which items you can recycle (try to think about this year's theme and more commonly 'missed items') you could then display these in school as a reminder to students and staff!  You can also become a refuse collector by using our MashCam.

There is also a 2Code activity - Clean the Ocean - where children can code a game where a diver is collecting rubbish from the sea.
