Feb. 22, 2021
On March 3rd, it is World Wildlife Day, a day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. World Wildlife Day in 2021 is celebrated looking at the theme of ‘Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet’ as a way to highlight the central role that forests, forest species and ecosystems service in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people globally. This year there is particular attention paid to the livelihoods of indigenous people and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas.
We are celebrating World Wildlife Day using Purple Mash. There are several resources you can use to support the theme.
Write about the geography of a forest using our Forest Writing Template. Look into whether a forest is man-made or natural and whether they change over time. Do you think humans might live in forests and ask what might happen in people keep cutting down trees in the forest? You have been visiting a rainforest. Write a postcard about your experiences using our Rainforest Template. You could also use our Rainforest Leaflet Template to create an informative leaflet to present your internet research on rainforests.
We have several templates that you can use to explore wild animals that can be found in forests. Red deer inhabit most of Europe, the Caucasus Mountains region, Asia Minor, Iran, parts of western Asia, and central Asia. They also inhabit the Atlas Mountains region between Morocco and Tunisia in north-western Africa. Use our Red Deer template to use similes and adjectives to describe a deer.
Rhinos once roamed many places throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa and could be found in tropical moist forests alongside other habitats before they became critically endangered due to persistent poaching. Make an informative poster to promote Rhino conservation using our poster template. Tiger's love roaming around forests, however, to save tigers, we must save the forests. Use our Tiger Description template here to think of some good adjectives and similes to describe a tiger and write about the lifecycle of a tiger using this template.
However you celebrate World Wildlife Day, please share your work with us on Facebook and Twitter.
