It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And this year a totally different one than many of us are used to. As nativity shows are being filmed and in bubbles, the glitter is out but is not being shared and the treats in the staff room are lasting a little longer as no-one has time to be in there!
Christmas is certainly not cancelled and here at 2Simple we have a range of stocking fillers and Christmas activities to see you through the weeks ahead; from writing projects, to paint projects to Mash Cams and games, there is something to suit every year group get into the festive spirit. You can find all our Christmas activities here.
From the 1st December, our Advent Calendar within Purple Mash will go live in the Sharing Area under our Display Boards. Head there with your class each day to reveal the daily advent treat and challenge! Behind each number we'll be sharing some cracking jokes, super surprises and exciting challenges. We'll also be sharing some of our shortlisted entries from the Festive Card Competition, so be sure not to miss a day in case your card entry features!
If you want to create your own class or school advent calendar, what better way to do it than using Purple Mash? This video explains all you need to do to set up your own advent calendar
We have a wide range of writing projects that can be used throughout the festive period. Why not get students to send Santa an email using 2Email, or get creative and write a newspaper report about the disappearance of Santa. Keeping their writing to the point, with a limited character number, children could take over the twitter feed for Santa and update it as he travels across the globe – great for linking to Geography and time zones. There are also other curriculum links you can make as we have a project and a postcard template looking at the Christmas day Truce in WWI, or you can use a template to write Scrooge’s letter to his past self.
Children can also carry out research and find out about Christmas Trees and why we have them, they could also write about how Christmas is celebrated around the world. There is also a range of poetry projects to choose from – why not try our Christmas Poem available for the festive period for non-subscribers - think of it as a little gift from us to you.
The Christmas creativity can continue with a range of ready-made paint projects for your class to try. Children can create their own wrapping paper, then design their own stockings and add it to their own decorated tree. Children can also get creative and design their perfect Christmas T-shirt. Not a subscriber to Purple Mash? You can still use this in class here.
Or why not make use of our range of activities in 2DIY – from completing jigsaws to playing pairs and creating a Nativity scene there are lots of other projects to keep you all in the festive mood. 2Code has even joined in with a festive game helping Santa control his reindeer and collect the fallen gifts. Our Mash Cams have also joined in with the merriment and there is a range to choose from: Santa and an elf to the Fairy Godmother and a shepherd – perfect to use for display as well as getting children to think about the characters. With some schools/classes not having accessibility to laptops or computers, remember that all our writing activities and paint projects can be printed off, we also have a number of Christmas Word Searches that can also be downloaded here.
Keep an eye on our social media feeds as well as over the next couple of weeks, we will be tweeting activities and ideas daily. However, you fill the days ahead we at 2Simple would like to wish you and all your staff a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
